Looking for free range, healthily raised chicken, turkey or duck? Or perhaps the harder to find pheasant, quail, partridge, squab, or goat? All this and much more can be found at Hill Top Farms at the Binford Farmers Market. Hill Top Farms is owned by Paul and Carol Grogg in Bryant, Indiana. Paul has been a farmer his whole life and enjoys the challenge of raising various birds and animals, and growing produce in the most natural and healthy way.
As seen by the wide variety of game birds and goats, Paul aims to provide food for his customers that are not widely available. This is true with vegetables as well. In additions to green beans, tomatoes, and wide variety of common vegetables all grown without use of chemicals or purchased fertilizer, you can also find salsify. Salsify is a root which Paul describes as a “great all-around vegetable”- a few ways to enjoy it include sautéed, added to soup, or mixed with potatoes. Next year he has plans to have live freshwater fish such as Georgia blue gill, catfish, trout and bass available.
Homemade ice cream, Swissland cheese from Bern, IN, and freshly prepared goat bar-b-que and other great sandwich options are also available at the Hill Top booth. But whatever you purchase from Hilltop Farm- chicken or quail eggs, game birds or vegetables- you can know it has been raised and grown with care by a farmer who is passionate about providing quality food that promotes the health of people as well as the animals and the plants.
